Quick Start Guide¶
This guide will help you get started with StingbatBot quickly.
1. Basic Setup¶
- Invite the bot to your Discord server
- Make sure the bot has the necessary permissions:
- Read Messages
- Send Messages
- Optionally give the bot permission to "Manage Messages". Specifically, this is used during initiative tracking for pinning the initiative tracker in the channel. If you don't want to grant that permission, you can simply pin the messages yourself with no adverse affects.
2. Your First Character¶
All characters are created using Shadowdarklings. A guide for how to do that is beyond the scope of this guide.
Once you have a character in Shadowdarklings, you need to export the JSON for that character into StingbatBot. Here's a little video showing how to do that:
Once the character is imported, it's part of your user's character list:
/character list
You need to "select" a character from this list to be your current character:
/character select name:<name>
The name supports autocomplete -- start typing and Discord will show matching characters.
3. Starting a session using the initiative tracker¶
- The DM can begin a new initiative session. This makes your user the DM for this session. By default, initiatives are channel-specific, but you can create server-wide initiatives with the global option:
/init begin # Channel-specific (default) /init begin global:True # Server-wide (works in any channel) - Add monster combatants to the initiative (as the DM):
/init monster_add name:Goblin - Players can join the initiative with their currently selected character:
/init join
4. Basic Commands¶
Try these essential commands:
/help - Show all commands
/roll expression:1d20 - Roll a d20
/attack weapon:sword - Roll an attack
